A network for researchers to interact, to collaborate, and to advance science.

The research being done at institutions world-wide is often used as the basis for discovery and innovation within other universities, government labs, and corporate research facilities all over the globe. Perhaps most importantly, the innovations that individuals and teams are working on across these institutions have the potential to solve some of the most critical social and environmental problems we face todayÑranging from pandemic diseases to global climate change.

However, these resources and expertise are too often buried in a web of overlapping programs and initiatives, making it difficult to view what others are working on and to connect with those who are working on symbiotic projects and issues. Even administrators have difficulty keeping up with the focus of current research and aligning the priorities of faculty, students, and those who provide funding. No standard reporting mechanisms exist, and opportunities for collaboration and further innovation are often lost as insights that could be used in one lab languish in another. The problem is not a lack of new ideas, but a lack of access to the resources that can turn an idea into a truly interdisciplinary solution.

AccessBerkeley is a system that will enable academics and businesses to easily identify, connect with, and collaborate with experts and researchers in a field. The system will provide a way for users to view the range of people and resources in an area of interest and communicate with other users based on dynamic searches of self published, mined, and public information.
